Erv Strong passed away around noon on January 7, 2013. As a friend said, "What a shame for the world to lose all that knowledge and passion for dolphins." Erv was happiest when he was out on the water playing with his dolphins. Over the years, he named most of them and could tell you how old a lot of them were and how long they had been in this area. He knew their personalities and which ones were friends and how long they had been friends . . . He accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the Texas coast, the weather and, of course, the dolphins, their behavior and their habitat. He was as happy and proud as any poppa when the baby dolphins were born in the spring.

Erv was, of course, much more than just the dolphin man. He was a loving and caring husband, brother and son. As he says in one of his blogs, he and Sonja were best friends (and business partners). He leaves behind many friends who will greatly miss his compassion, his warmth and his sense of humor. Many of the people who went on dolphin tours considered themselves friends and part of the Dolphin Connection. They will also greatly miss Erv. Some friends will miss his presence at the informal IOB pool tournaments. He was a formidable pool competitor, quick with "helpful" suggestions. Most of all he will be missed because, without his cheerful outlook and sometimes silly, other times wicked sense of humor, the day just isn't as bright. As Erv said the night before he died, he has gone on to do his Father's work. We are left to commemorate his life, his love of life, and his love for his family, his friends and his dolphins.
